Free
Smoking Cessation offered by
University Health Services – Office of Health Promotion
and the Portage County Tobacco Prevention Coalition.
Which smoking cessation program
is offered?
We are utilizing both the Mayo Clinic “Path to a
Smoke-free Future”® and American Lung Association’s
Freedom From Smoking® Both programs are comprehensive
programs that addresses not only the benefits of
quitting smoking; but also offers many proven techniques
to help you succeed in becoming and staying smoke-free.
How does the program work?
Groups will meet on a weekly basis for 6 weeks and
take you through the quitting process step by step.
This includes identifying your motivation for quitting
and the triggers that make you want to smoke, setting
a quit date, how to deal with stress, and planning
for to prevent relapse.
Are all sessions conducted as a group?
The group setting is beneficial because clients
are able to identify with the experiences of others.
We do however, offer sessions with one or two people
as well if the group sessions do not fit into your
schedule.
Where will the session be held?
Sessions are being held at the DeWeese Health Center
here on campus. If there is a group that wishes
to participate as a department, arrangements can
be made to accommodate the departmental needs.
How do I enroll?
You may call or e-mail the Freedom From Smoking®
facilitator. Contact: Sharon Briggs, University
Health Services/Office of Health Promotion @ 330-672-8267

other smoking cessation programs charge a fee, how
is this program free of charge?
